Optimal long-term performance of a variable valve timing (VVT) system requires a reliable and rugged cam phaser, also known as a timing sprocket. The factory phasers on certain Ford and Lincoln trucks and SUVs with a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine can fail prematurely from excessive internal wear. A two-step locking pin and deeper receiving seat replace the factory sprocket's straight pin design, providing more secure engagement and stability during phaser actuations that eliminates the rattling sound typical of a malfunctioning sprocket. This cam phaser also has an innovative oil wiper designed with concave sealing edges, an upgrade from the factory's flat wiper profile.
