Optimal long-term performance of a variable valve timing (VVT) system requires a reliable and rugged cam phaser, also known as a timing sprocket. The factory phasers on certain Ford and Lincoln trucks and SUVs with a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine can fail prematurely from excessive internal wear. This Dorman OE FIX intake cam phaser features significant upgrades to the original equipment design to provide longer service life and better performance. A two-step locking pin with a thicker seat top, longer seat stem and deeper receiving pin seat replace the factory sprocket's straight pin design, providing more secure engagement and stability during phaser actuations, eliminating the rattling typical of a malfunctioning sprocket. This cam phaser also has innovative oil wipers designed with twin sealing edges, an upgrade from the factory's flat wiper profile. The unique surface geometry seals oil much more effectively, enabling extended wiper life by spreading wear over twice as many sealing surfaces as the OE provides. The durability of this upgraded cam phaser has been proven far beyond the limits of many aftermarket competitors' on-vehicle tests.
